For a lot of families, June 15th was supposed to be the day the phone rang. For most, it didn’t — and I’ve been getting the same call all month: does this mean it’s over?
No. Here’s what actually happened. On the day contact opened, coaches called the players already at the top of their board — the ones they’d been watching for a year. That list is short and it is not final. Rosters shift all summer. Kids commit elsewhere. Coaches keep watching film in July because they have to.
Silence in June is not a verdict. It usually means one of three things: they haven’t seen your film, they’ve seen it and need more, or you’re on a list you don’t know about yet. All three are fixable, and July is when you fix them.
One more thing, for the parents: the athletes who get recruited in July are almost never the ones who got a call in June. They’re the ones who kept working while everyone else waited.
