HIGHER DEGREE RECRUIT THE MONTHLY GAME PLAN
OCTOBER 2026
THIS MONTH FROM RANDY

The FAFSA Just Opened. File It—Even If You Think You Won’t Qualify.

Every October I hear the same thing from sports parents: “We make too much for financial aid, so we skipped the FAFSA.” And every spring, some of those same families find out they left real money on the table. Here’s the truth—the FAFSA isn’t just about need-based grants. It’s the key that unlocks the entire aid system.

Three reasons every recruiting family files, every year:

1.

Many schools require it for ANY aid—including some merit scholarships and institutional grants that have nothing to do with income. No FAFSA on file, no money.

2.

It strengthens your stacking position. A partial athletic offer plus merit aid plus a federal grant beats a bigger athletic offer alone. Coaches respect families who know their numbers.

3.

Circumstances change. A job change, a second kid in college, an injury—if the year goes sideways, the family with a FAFSA on file has options. The family without one starts from zero.

File early—some aid is first-come, first-served. Thirty minutes at studentaid.gov. Do it this week.
